At the beginning of Harry Potter, a movie trailer ran. Even if the imagery hadn’t been an immediate give-away, the first line would have been …
Purists (yes, you, Avo) may scoff, but I actually think this could be pretty good. Steve Carell’s a solid choice. It will all depend on the quality of the writing — one-upping Mel Brooks and Buck Henry is no trivial task. On the other hand, I’ll pay money to see Terence Stamp as Siegfried …
Well, its got Anne Hathaway so Randy will be more inclined to see it, and I did laugh, so it is several steps up from the Pink Panther remake.
*shudders*
Tarence Stamp as Sieggy…I think I like it. 🙂
“KNEEL before SIEGFRIED!”
Though … Bernie Kopell is only 6 years older than Terence Stamp …
Actually, what struck me in the trailer is the similarity between the concepts of the characters of Clouseau and Smart — more discernible in the context of remakes than in recollections of the originals.
I cringe…
I don’t know this Carell guy, but the friend who told me about the movie seemed to think he’d be good. But can Maxwell Smart really be anybody other than Don Adams?
I think Carell can (with the right writers) bring to the role the same somewhat-self-aware bumbling-yet-heroic earnestness that Don Adams brought to the role.
In the wrong hands, it’ll be an Abomination before Man and God. So we’ll see.
Or, to mix my post topics, I have higher hopes for this seizing the spirit of the original than I do the Watchmen movie.
Ummm….
Directed by Peter Segal:
Longest Yard – Remake. *shudders* Sandler
50 First Dates – Sandler and Barrymore, two people on my do not watch list.
Anger Management – Sandler
Nutty Perfessor II: The Klumps *curls up in a fetal position* Eddie Murphy.
My Fellow Americans – no clue
Tommy Boy – Farley and Spade…not funny.
Naked Gun: 33 1/3 – Was sort of funny, but then it was Naked gun.
