While the obits for Jane Wyman focus on her Academy Award winning role in Johnny Belinda, her starring role on Falcon Crest, or her status as Ronald Reagan’s first wife, we’ll always remember her as Spock’s human mother, Amanda Grayson — a role to which she brought memorable notes of elegance, passion, and humor.

UPDATE: Yes, I am an idiot, in that I don’t know the difference between Jane Wyman (who passed away just recently) and Jane Wyatt (who played Spock’s mom, and who passed away last October). Thanks, Avo. Yeesh. (Though, perusing Google, I find I’m not the only one to have made the error.) (And Gene Roddenberry did write shows for Jane Wyman Presents.)
