Whew! They haven’t found me out yet!

Had my annual review from the Boss Man today. It’s an annual agony — I’m always sure (based on regular feedback) that it will go well, but I’m always waiting for the other shoe to drop.

In this case — well, it went pretty well. My overall score went u a tick, I got some nice kudos (expected and un-), was called a “consummate team player,” “exceptionally dependable,” and lots other places where “excellent” was used. Safety, listening skills, initiative, contributions, and objectivity were all areas highlighted as very good things.

The Boss Man is good about giving credit where due, but he’s not effusive about it, so it’s not like he was simply saying nice things because that’s the thing to do.

Lest this seem like a huge self-back-patting, I also had several “areas for improvement” pointed out (and one area I’d fallen back in), none of which was a surprise (or something I disagreed with), though none of them are matters I look forward to working on, either.

The most amusing point was where the Boss Man said I had greatly improved in coming up with better summary information in my emails to him — which, I fear, will be a life-long struggle for me to maintain, being the wordy sort.

So that’s one massive hurdle for the week down. Only a dozen or more so to go. But I feel a bit springier in the step for the praise received (cue vigorous wagging of the tail).
