Microsoft Outlook, that is. My company is doing a proof-of-concept pilot to see how Google’s tools could be used in lieu of Microsoft desktop ones. In particular they are looking at GMail, and the various collaboration tools (Google Docs, Sites, Calendar, etc.).
So I’ve gone ahead and volunteered, since I’ve done so much with it already at home. Which will mean probably uninstalling Outlook from my machine (not a bad thing in and of itself); company mail will be synced between my Exchange and new company GMail account, as will calendar info, etc. On the collaboration stuff, we’ll be encouraged to give those tools a workout, but they’re not taking away our Office software (which is just as well).
More on this as I move into it. It should be interesting. I think the GMail solution has a lot of possibilities, but I’m not convinced that GDocs is a reasonable replacement for Office (esp. to the extent we collaborate with clients). Indeed, my biggest concern with GMail right now is how to stay signed on to two Google accounts at once, one for work and one for my non-work usage …
