Well, it’s about that time

Both Kate and my mom asked over the weekend how Mist was doing. And as of the weekend, he was doing okay. We were feeding him some canned food, the (secondary) mouth infection seemed to be under control, and if he was capering about the house, he seemed to be able to get to wherever he needed to be (usually sitting up next to Margie at her desk).

Well, today, he took a serious turn for the worse. Margie was at home, and he started getting sick, repeatedly. This was causing him a great deal of (extra) discomfort, and he was acting both frantic and didn’t want anyone around him. Later, he curled up next to Margie on the sofa, but he still wasn’t eating or drinking anything all day, and he remains very lethargic. Either the cancer’s spread, or there are other systems failures, or just a generally sinking level of health. In any case, it’s not terribly surprising, nor are things seem likely to get much bettter.

So … we called the vet. Made an appointment for tomorrow afternoon. Let Katherine know what was going on and what was going to happen.

Not the best of ways to start the week.

  1. Chalk it up to my irrational and superstitious nature, but I don’t think death is the end, even for critters (no, I’ve not given this deep theological exploration — as I said, it’s an irrational belief).

  2. That poor kitty! THat poor family! It’s so hard to let go for both, but I think Mist is letting you know he’s ready.

And while to soul ebate could be interesting at another time, it doesn’t matter. The love you have for Mist and the love he returns means he’ll always be with you, to the end and beyond as a little kitty angel.
