… and the blog hasn’t blown up yet. Yay!
Actually, I’m really pleased by how the whole conversion went, esp. since 99% of the effort was of my own choosing. Had I been just “export, install, import,” it would have gone a lot faster. I will likely take that approach on most of the other blogs, unless I can deduce a major reason to try and maintain a large body of internal links.
WP could use some more coherent documentation on Movable-Type-to-WordPress transfers. There’s a lot of stuff out there, some of it aging, some of it goofy, a lot of it cross-referential, and most of it confusing to a novice. I’m going to write up my notes, which probably won’t help things any, but one of the drawbacks to an open source, user-supported platform like WP is that you get what you pay for (well, you actually get a lot more, but you don’t get a coherent vision and direction in the documentation). (Nor, do I hasten to point out, does SixApart have anything to crow over this, as the MT docs have actually gotten worse in their last few incarnations.)
I have a busy day at work, so not much I anticipate doing today. I have gotten my Flickr connection working (much more straightforwardly than with MT), and Akismet is already slamming spam, so life’s pretty good.
So … howzabout some comments?
Go away for a day, and the whole neighborhood changes! Missed seeing your face to the top, but it looks good.
Thanks, Mary — like I said, this will not be the last word in design (I want to get the pictures back, or something else of that sort), but it works and looks moderately nice. 🙂
It’s monday…
The comments on my Blog load.
Your comment from friday finally appeared.
I can actually preview again.
And the comments on your blog actually load and publish.
Woot and Huzzah!
Looks like our job here is done, Tonto.
La ling, la ling, la ling, la ling, la ling. Coincidentally, the local library redesigned its web page this weekend, too.
I’m just happy I can post a comment without sitting and waiting for five minutes while it tries to choke it down…
And then coming back to it to discover it timed out, then resubmitting it, then getting seeing it duplicated.
All seems to be working well for me, though I do miss the picture strip documenting the long life of Dave. I also miss the dates on the recent replies…er, rumblings (I like being able to tell which ones are new to me without having to open one that I’ve already read).
The way the comments show up is definitely on my hit list.
And working on it even as I write.
And I think it’s working now (using the “Get Recent Comments” plug-in, http://blog.jodies.de/archiv/2004/11/13/recent-comments/).
