I’m mapping out my course for migrating to my new PC. Yeesh. Lots of stuff, some of which will be kind of ugly to move.
One of the first things will be installing Firefox. I’m currently on 3.5, and plan to use it instead of the IE7 (auto-updated to IE8) on the new machine.
Extensions I’m currently using (via Extension List Dumper, plus [my comments]):
Application: Firefox 3.5.1 (20090715094852)
Operating System: WINNT (x86-msvc)
- Adblock Plus 1.1
Ads were yesterday! [one of the five best reasons to use Firefox] - Add Bookmark Here 3.0
Add bookmark here in bookmarks menu [eases FF’s clunky bookmark management a bit] - AI Roboform Toolbar for Firefox 6.9.95
Allows the use of Roboform in Firefox. [one of the key reasons I don’t use Chrome] - Clippings 3.1
Save frequently-entered text for pasting later. [not using it, but keep thinking I will] - ColorZilla 2.0.2.1
Advanced Eyedropper, ColorPicker, Page Zoomer and other colorful goodies [used infrequently, but invaluable when I need to determine the color code for something on the screen.] - DownThemAll! 1.1.4
The mass downloader for Firefox. [it has non-pr0n uses, too] - Extended Copy Menu 1.6
Provides the option to copy selection as plain text or html. [a very nice convenience] - Extension List Dumper 1.14.2
Dumps a list of the installed extensions. [for generating these lists] - FireFTP 1.0.5
FTP Client for Mozilla Firefox. [my current FTP client of choice] - Flagfox 3.3.14
Displays a flag depicting the location of the current server [plus WHOIS info, etc.] - Flashblock 1.5.11.2
Replaces Flash objects with a button you can click to view them. [another of the five best reasons to use Firefox] - Forecastfox 0.9.10.1
Get international weather forecasts and display it in any toolbar or statusbar with this highly customizable extension. [convenient, though only Accuweather accurate] - IE View Lite 1.3.4
Cut down version of IE View by Paul Roub. [quick open a window in IE if needed, or default a site to opening in IE] - ImgTag 0.3.4
Generates IMG tags [invaluable for blogging, to reuse an image in my blog] - Make Link 8.12
Make HTML or ForumCode links via the context menu [again, a great convenence in blogging, to create an HTML link to a site with the site’s title as text] - Perspectives 3.0.3
Securely bypasses Firefox HTTPS security errors by verifying certificates using a collection of Network Notaries. See http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~perspectives/ - Tab Mix Plus 0.3.7.4pre.090516
Tab browsing with an added boost. [improves on FF’s already decent tabbed browsing power]
So noting these here so I can implement them on my new PC through this post …
Just out of curiosity (and certainly, if it’s a security risk, don’t even consider it) but might you note what extensions/add-ons you’re using in WordPress? I saw the stuff about the theme you’d bought, but I’m using WordPress for one of my blogs and was curious if you had Opinions. Thanks!
I’ve added a “My WP” link at the top of the page that lists out my WP plug-ins on it (dynamically). I’ve heard this is potentially dangerous to do, but in enough cases it’s clear what I’m using that I don’t see it as a real exposure.
Holler if you have questions on anything.
