Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Attorney for Episcopal diocese reflects on Grace Church property trial – The Pulpit : Colorado Springs Gazette, CO – An interesting “behind the scenes” analysis.
- Boehner Brushes Off Past GOP Moves To Rush Bills Through Congress: ‘It Was A Different Time’ – “We promise never to do it again, honest, as long as you stop first.”
- FLASHBACK: In Bush era, Inhofe decried ‘chilling effect’ of probing White House ‘regardless of administration.’: Brad
- Broun calls Pelosi a ‘domestic enemy of the Constitution.’ – Y’know, if the Left were so much into “tyranny” and “thought control,” this fella would be off an a detention center somewhere.
- Jeb Bush: The Country Needs To Put On Its ‘Big-Boy Pants’ And Leave My Brother Alone – Actually, what’s remarkable is how quickly Dubya’s been forgotten.
- Report: Limbaugh to judge 2010 Miss America pageant | Media Matters for America – Wow — just … yeesh.
- Respecting the Troops By Voting Against the Defense Appropriation – Insane rhetoric of the Right aside, I’m not pleased with this sort of piggy-backing of bills, no matter who does it. That said, the irony of “Vote for the Defense Bill or we’ll attack you for hating the troops next election” GOP suddenly getting a “conscience” is pretty zany.
- The best analysis money can buy – Gartner’s analysis of where things are going is usually pretty sketchy — no worse or no better than any other pundit. They do usually have some interesting info about what’s going on
now, which is helpful for folks trying to draw their own conclusions. - Facebook Vs Twitter Round 2: A Comparison Of The Top Users – Because I live or die based on whether more people are following Michael Jackson on Twitter or on Facebook.
- 21 Impressive Tree Images – These are very cool.
- Op-Ed Columnist – Let Congress Go Without Insurance – NYTimes.com – A brilliant idea: to the extent that Americans are uncovered or inadequately covered, a random group of Congresscritters have their government-provided coverage eliminated or curtailed. What could be more fair? I second the motion.
- Dad’s Life or Yours? You Choose – NYTimes.com – Another unintended (by society, not by insurers) consequence of our current system — you don’t dare get tested for a potential condition, lest the insurance company dump you (at which point nobody else will pick you up). Even of the testing could help you be treated to delay the condition. Even if the testing is necessary to save someone else’s life. And this is the best medical care system in the world again because …?
- When Your Employer Owns a Life Insurance Policy On You – I can see this as a hedge against the loss of a key executive. But for lower-level employees, it’s a bizarre practice, and sounds like an excellent tax loophole to close (and, at the very least, the policies should have to terminate upon leaving employment). It isn’t actually hurting anyone, save from emotional turmoil, but that doesn’t make it right.
- Scott Paeth: When Is a Religious Symbol Not a Religious Symbol? – The more devout the believer, they quicker they seem to be to argue that their faith’s religious symbol isn’t religious but universal (and thus arguably secular) in nature. It’s either highly disingenuous or a huge blind spot.
- New Oklahoma law will publicy post details of women’s abortions online. – Reprehensible is far too mild a word for this law.
- “Does He Simply Hate Christianity… Does He Hate the United States… or Both?” – Or, as J. Jonah Jameson would put it, “OBAMA: THREAT OR MENACE?”
- The vomitorium myth – Another charming image of decadence deflated.
- Healthy baby poop gallery – Sounds like a brilliant idea that I am so glad I no longer have any use for.
- Mitch Horowitz on Occult New York: Mitch Horowitz
- Germany’s top fashion magazine bans models over “anorexia” – Nice. “[T]hey have to devote substantial resources to photoshopping added weight to them in order to make them resemble their readers.”

So, broken clock Kristof writes something that Michael Moore said back during the Sicko days, something that most of the “Left of the Left” bloggers and Rachel Maddow said back when the whole health care debate started, and something I asked Polis to introduce back in August…
