Unblogged Bits for Saturday, 21 November 2009

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  • Shame to Humanity – Just to show you it’s not “just” the Japanese being dicks toward dolphins.
  • Mussolini brain ‘stolen by criminals keen to sell it on the web’ – THEY’VE GOT MUSSOLINI’S BRAIN IN A JAR!
  • Owner of trendy Manhattan restaurant Paradou plumbs new depths of evil bad-bossitude – Look! A NYC restaurant to avoid eating at! Good thing there are plenty of others to visit.
  • War & Taxes « Jon Taplin’s Blog – If it’s important enough to spend lives on, it’s important enough to pony up the money for — IF the cost is recognized and factored in and paid for. The current Iraq and Afghan conflicts have only continued so long because they’ve been largely off the books, adding to the debt while the GOP whines about NEA grants. Read the linked-to sites — it costs about $1 million a year to deploy a single soldier overseas. But like someone charging their splurges on credit cards, it doesn’t seem to cost any “real” money.
  • Quote Of The Day – Antonin Scalia – Have to wonder if Antonin has considered how S. European Catholics were thought of and legally treated in 1787, too.
  • From The Manhattan Declaration – Well, at least they’re open about it. Though I disagree that it’s a “hate the sin, love the sinner” kind of thing — there’s plenty of hate toward gays and their supporters included.
  • Media Matters staff: Fox News: “Sen. Joe Lieberman (R-CT)” – What do you know? They finally got one right!
  • When Hawks Collide – “If new legislation aimed at bettering the lives of the American people has to be “paid for” by various revenue gathering/cost cutting schemes, then so too should military spending initiatives such as the continuation of our military presence in Afghanistan and Iraq.” Amen. We may and should argue the merits of those military actions, but to simply do them without paying for them, and then complain that the decifit is skyrocketing and it’s all the fault of recovery efforts and health care reform, is dishonest.
