Girl Scout Cookie Bakery Face-Off!

Girl Scouts Cookies!
Girl Scouts Cookies!

There were two companies baking Girl Scout cookies this year — ABC, and Little Brownie Bakers.  By coincidence, ABC was the company serving Jim & Ginger’s neighborhood in California, while LBB were supplying the local Denver area.

And, so, inevitably, we had to have a face-off taste comparison with two popular flavors, handed through a blind tasting:

Thin Mints

ABC: Drier, harder cookie.  Thinner (cheaper?) chocolate. [Serving 4 cookies (32g), 8 per container, 160 cal.]

LBB: Softer cookie.  More chocolate. Much more intense mint flavor. [Serving 4 cookies (32g), 7 per container, 160 cal.]

Conclusion: LBB Thin Mints are by far the better cookie.  On the other hand, either is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

Peanut Butter Sandwich (LBB: Do-si-dos)

ABC: Firmer cookie. Slightly better peanut flavor, plus more filling. A bit more fragrant. [Serving 3 cookies (35g), 7 per container, 160 cal.]

LBB: Crumblier cookie.  Better cookie bite / texture. [Serving 2 cookies (24g), 9 per container, 110 cal.]

Conclusion: Too close to call, and different folks preferred different ones.  “With a lack of saturated fats, neither is the cookie of my childhood,” quoth Margie.

So the rep of Little Brownie Bakers as the “better” cookie baker seems to be somewhat intact.  But everything was pretty good. Love those Girl Scout Cookies.

  1. THIN MINTS= ABC bakers! Darker chocolate! More (thicker) chocolate! Stronger mint! Less Crumbly! Whoever started this blog got it backwards!!! Little brownie baker…cookie thicker, drier, crumblier, less mint flavor, LESS dark chocolate covering. If IU lived in a Little Brownie region I would have no trouble giving up Thin Mints FOR-E-EVER!

  2. We live in Illinois and buy from both Illinois & Missouri Girl Scouts. Illinois is Little Brownie and Missouir is ABC. Bought from both and ABC wins hands down with Thin Mints, Tag-A-Longs & Do-Si-Do’s. Also they have diffrent varieties in the two states, I do really love the Savannah Smiles (lemon cookies w/powder sugar) & Dulce de Leche that Illinois sells and Missouri has the new Mango Creme is pretty decent & thier lemon cookie with an iced bottom is the BOMB. But ABC Bakery wins overall, wish they’d make the Savannah Smiles and Dulce de Leche. Also this is the first year IL & MO sold at the same time, used be Illinois sold in fall & MO sold in spring, loved having cookies year round now I can’t afford all at once.
