Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Denver Zoo welcomes 4 tiger cubs – The Denver Post – TEH CUTE!!!!!
- The odiousness of the distorted Godwin’s Law – Glenn Greenwald – Salon.com – Comparisons to the Nazi regime’s actions, or that of Stalin’s Russia, etc., can be useful to the extent that they are accurate, and distorting and conversation-killing to the extent they are not. They possess such a tremendous horror that it’s difficult to introduce them without introducing terrible hyperbole, and emotional impact beyond what most discussions can stand. And yet, there are lessons to be learned, and analogies to be drawn, and things we must not forget so that we do not repeat them. And it’s a reminder I need to go back and read Justice Jackson’s opening statement at Nuremberg again.
- The Power and the Glory – An excellent analysis of “high road” vs “low road” approaches to foreign (and domestic) policy, and how the former are quickly deemed failures, the latter given near-infinite time and patience. I wonder if it’s just because, when we’re frustrated, we want to HIT things.
- Boehner Takes A Stand Against Paying $1.50 More For Indoor Tanning: Alex Seitz-Wald
- Sex & Money, part 3 – Yet another faboo Fred Clark essay on Evangelism, Biblical Authority and (not his word) Rules-Mongering. “‘Love is the fulfillment of the law,’ the Bible says. When love is perceived as a violation of the law, something has gone horribly amiss. When the rulebook is telling you that more affordable, decent housing for seniors is wrong, then something is wrong with the way you’re reading the rulebook. Starting, probably, with the fact that it’s not supposed to be a rulebook.” Take up and read, indeed.
