Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- The myth about fading Hollywood stars and franchises – It’s noteworthy that the “foreign” box office is now becoming such an important part of a US movie’s success.
- The most iconic movie music themes of all time – There’s only one here I’m surprised by (though it’s certainly a worthy candidate). A bit heavy, perhaps, on the John Williams, but it’s hard to argue any of the choices.
- Yogi Bear: the poster we’ll be talking about for years – Regardless of the inuendo …it’s just bad imagery.
- Lifting ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ won’t threaten religious freedom – USATODAY.com – Are Catholic chaplains in the military forced to support divorce, or abortion? Are Jewish chaplains harmed by not being able to counsel goyim soldiers on keeping kosher? Are Christian chaplains who have to care for the spiritual needs of non-Christians religiously oppressed in having to do so? I think not.
- One Part French Revolution, One Part Race Baiting = Rush Limbaugh | Media Matters for America – Yes, Rush, we know. She’s an uppity black woman in your White House. We get it.
- The Wrong Lesson To Learn From the Kagan Confirmation – “President Obama should consider himself free to nominate whoever he wants: if we’re going to fight, it might as well be a fight worth having.”
- Getting the moral of the ethics story backwards – Power corrupts. What’s important is how others in power deal with it.
- Prop. 8 ruling appealed – It’s interesting that the state officials seem willing to resume gay marriages. Good for them. Unlike some rulings that overturn something new, this is returning to the status quo ante. Seems fair to me, though I admit my prejudice in the case.

Basil Poledouris certainly belongs on that list, but I would give that spot to “The Anvil of Crom” from Conan the Barbarian.
