Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Fischer: “We Ought to be Done with the Building of Mosques in the United States of America” – “Permits, in my judgment, should not be granted to build even one more mosque in the United States of America. Not one! We ought to be done with the building of mosques in the United States of America. I’m not saying go out and tear down the ones that are there.” Yet.
- Colson: We Must Stop SCOTUS From Unleashing Gay Marriage “Cultural Armageddon” – “So you can forget all about the Right’s supposed commitment to the idea that cases must be decided on the merits and rulings must be based on foundational Constitutional values and principles because, according to Colson, the role of the Supreme Court is to simply issue decisions that reflect the will of the majority.”
- CA Christian School Fires Catholic Employees For Not Being “Born Again” – It’s worth noting that much of the impetus for the First Amendment’s freedom of religion clause came from internecine Christian infighting, with folks like Catholics, Baptists, and Quakers all being actively persecuted (and prosecuted) by local, “orthodox” Christians in various states.

- Gitmo Judge Admits Confession Extracted By Rape Threat – That’s … just swell.
- YouTube – Ben Quayle Commercial – Well, he’s certainly more articulate than his Dad, but … um … comes off as more than bit of an obnoxious jerk, don’t you think? Even a bit sinister? Or was that supposed to be “strong and determined”?
- Battlestar: An Epic of Sci-Fi LULZ? – Because everyone loves a “good-hearted tween comedy” like … Battlestar Galactica?!
- Robert A. Heinlein: A real-life Forrest Gump – Need to put this on my wish list.
- Vampire Evolution – DORK TOWER, Wednesday, August 11, 2010
- The Usual Retorts: Conspiracy Theorists’ Top 10 Misconceptions of Debunkers – This is one of those “clip this and save it somewhere” posts that disassembles standard conspiracy fare — no specific conspiracy, mind you, just general conspiracy theorizing.
- Expensive cleavers are a waste of money – See, this is the part where I publish this link, look over at Margie, and cock a querying eyebrow …
- Glass Slides of the Jungle River Cruise – Remarkable seeing how undergrown the overgrowth is.
- Borosage on why Obama’s having problems – George notes, “All these points I am troubled by people who seem to think the solution is to ‘punish’ the Democrats by voting for Republicans or independents in the Fall. Seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face.” Indeed. The classic problem is how to get the corporatist Democratic leadership to actually pay attention to the Progressive wing without … well, without letting the Republicans back into catbird seat.
- Badass Quote of the Day [Dispatches from the Culture Wars] – A seriously big amen here. Let’s remember that some of the Founders who wrote the Bill of Rights looked with more doubt on Catholics than on Muslims. And I’m in a management course this week with a Lebanese gent (named Jihad) and a Saudi. I look on them as colleagues, not conspirators, and have chatted with them this week about their lives and families. Demonizing Muslims in general, and American Muslims in particular, as crypto-terrorists out to destroy America is not only bad (and possibly self-fulfilling) policy, but is, frankly, un-American.

I had read that Dork Tower strip and was a bit confused. I know that Wubbzy is a kids’ show, but I don’t understand the “Woe woe” bit. Does that have something to do with vampires?
I just read something about cleavers that lined up with that article – mostly. The exception is the Chinese cleaver, which can be used as a chef’s knife, if it’s good enough – which makes my head spin. Whoah, really? It’s supposedly even safer to use, because you just rest the blade against your knuckles.
While it may be true the BSG is not a Tween Comedy, it sure did have a Saw like ending…
Meaning you felt like cutting off your own leg in order to escape?
Pretty much.
