Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Guess What? Bryan Fischer Doesn’t Trust Muslims! – Isn’t it amazing how you can spin an anonymous and highly dubious quote from a questionable source into a MASSIVE EVIL CONSPIRACY SNEAK INTO OUR HOUSES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND CUT OFF ALL OUR HEADS!!!!!!!!!! I stand by my assessment of his doltitude.
- Glenn Beck, The “9-11 Mosque,” and The Mountain Meadows Massacre – Maybe we can get a Glenn Beck / Bryan Fischer cage match over the proposition that Mormonism is a violent and totalitarian political ideology that is completely at odds with Western and American civilization.
- Ann Coulter Deemed Too “Gay Friendly” For WorldNetDaily Conference – It’s kind of scary when Ann Coulter is too “gay friendly” for a group. Of course, looking at some of the guests, Attila the Hun is probably too friendly for them.
- The original pilot script for television’s most famous disaster, the Starlost, coming out as a comic book [Harlan Ellison] – I saw the cover for this at the Comic-Con. I actually have the novelization that was done (and which includes a masterful orifice-ripping by Ellison himself about the suits that ruined the show). I have fragmentary vivid and pleasant memories of it, and I should probably keep it that way, rather than rewatch the show, but a graphic novel … hell yeah.
- Home of the Brave – “I honestly feel like we have, as a country, lost a public notion of the bravery of gracefulness and good manners when dealing with people different than us.” You’d have thought our mothers taught us better.
- GOP Candidate Allen West: People With ‘Coexist’ Bumper Stickers Want To ‘Give Away Our Country’ – As Stan noted, “Who knew that Margie was so generous?” Plus, Allen West is a dolt. And a dangerous man. And, arguably, a war criminal.
- A man who turned a roll-aboard into a laptop table, and a you-go-girl travel device – USATODAY.com – I can definitely see using two of these …
- Beloit College’s list: E-mail already passé to freshmen – “Students need to learn the difference between data and information, information and knowledge, and knowledge and wisdom.” Plus, I feel older than ever.
- Battle over legacy of father of Art Nouveau – News, Art – The Independent – As a fan of Mucha, it’s both understandable and a shame to see this brouhaha.

So the “Phoenix without Ashes” is (currently) a 4-issue comic from IDW. I suspect it will be just part of what was novelized (by Ed Bryant from Ellison’s first episode or two), enough to whet the appetite and gauge the demand.
The story remains cool. The art is a bit quirky but a solid B so far.
The show, as noted, is best remembered through the misty haze of dim, adolescent history. Remember that this was in 1973, five years after ST:TOS was off the air, an era when SF on TV was rarer than hen’s teeth, so *anything* you got, no matter how crappy, was like manna from heaven.
