Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- ANDRE NORTON ORG: Coverart Gallery! – An article at Tor.com reminded me of (a) how much I loved this book, and (b) how awesome both the Robin Jacques hardcover picture and the Jeff Jones paperback illustrations were.
- To Know Him Is to Love Him – I’m not more sure he’s eligible for sainthood any more than you or me — but it seems increasingly unrealistic to portray Imam Faisal Adul Rauf as a ravening jihadist out to cut our throats and pollute our precious bodily fluids.
- How extreme is the Russian heatwave?: David Smith
- Tom Tancredo and Michelle Malkin — the new dream team? – Denver News – The Latest Word – I don’t know if this would be the most spectacularly funny example of candidate wingnuttery on record, or if my head would explode with the possibility (however bizarre and remote) that they might actually win.
- Chamber Of Commerce COO Apologizes For ‘Ridiculous’ Post Blaming Women For The Gender Wage Gap – Well, at least they realized how their blog entry sounded (or how it was playing in the press).
- Toyota: Spends $1 Million an Hour on Safety? – Answer: No, They Don’t.
- Is Mike McWherter Advocating Segregation?: Aunt B.
- Less Than A Third Of Americans Support Keeping Bush Tax Cuts For The Wealthy – I’m sure all the Republicans, who rely on polling data to point out how unpopular Obama and the Affordable Care Act are, will immediately drop their demands and political campaigning that these intentionally-temporary tax cuts be made permanent.
- Topless Robot – 10 More Minor Star Wars Characters With Completely Unnecessary Backstories – It’s not so much the backstory, but the fact that everyone in the SW universe seems to have 1-2 Degrees of Separation from Han/Luke/Leia.
- Food Fight
- Hallowed ground: Why other nations think we’re nuts – It’s probably worth noting that, with our relatively young nation, the examples of Places Where Awful Things Happened (i.e., “Hallowed Ground”) are much more limited. As opposed to Europe, where you can’t throw a dead cat without having it land someplace there was a massacre, a prison, a temple, a cathedral, a rally, an assassination, a battle, etc.
- The Hallowed Ground of Lower Manhattan [Dispatches from the Culture Wars] – If we allow Muslims to build a community center and mosque near strip clubs and OTB parlors, then the terrorists have won. I guess.
- Sony replacing handset wiring with a single copper cable – Ribbon/band cables were a significant advance in electronics. This is even moreso.

Ok, if TT & MM win the governor’s race, I’m moving back to OR even if I have to live in a box.
Can we join you in your box? We’ll chip in for extra cardboard.
