Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Tancredo Repeats Urban Myth : Dispatches from the Culture Wars – Yes, folks, that’s my former US Representative.
- New Tea Party Issue: End Masturbation! : Dispatches from the Culture Wars – Yeeeaaahhh … let us know how that works for you folks.
- Voinovich gives small-business bill a boost – It’s no coincidence (but still very sad) that the most honest and rational voices coming out of the GOP these days are from Republicans who are retiring or who lost their primaries.
- What if Pastor Jones had been in the UK? – I’d rather have our system, to be honest, no matter how (frequently) embarrassing and even dangerous it can get. Banning/arresting publicity-seeking lunatics like Jones doesn’t get rid of their ideas; it’s just as likely to make them martyrs. - Consequences of U.S. and Dutch Approaches to Teen Sex – Gee. The US teaches abstinence, preaches the shame and sinfulness of sex before marriage, and discourages contraceptive use — and ends up with a higher teen pregnancy, abortion, HIV and STD rates. The Netherlands treats the subject with a dose of rationality and encourages contraceptive use — and has significantly lower rates of all of the above. Hmmmmmmm …
- Right wing fearmongers that Dems are holding hearing on ways to come after your guns | Media Matters for America – Never let the truth get in the way of a of a great political story that fits the narrative you’re trying to push!
- Media Matters staff: Islamophobia? Fox Nation thinks Trump needs to “rescue ground zero from mosque” – Silly Donald … everyone knows that another five blocks won’t make any difference. “IT’S IN THE SAME CITY THE TERRORISTS ATTACKED! IT WAS ENVELOPED IN THE DUST AND SMOKE! IT’S SACRED GROUND!” On the other hand, if you were looking for publicity, your timing was just a little off. Keep at it, though, Donald!
- Et tu, Mr. Destructo?: White America’s Inconvenience Tantrum, Part V: We Start the Pogrom at Ground Zero – A long, bitter, but pointed editorial on various things I largely agree with, but most importantly followed by the results of a Facebook search on the term “MOSK” which is about three inches of hilarity, five inches of sad, and four inches of sheer terror at the idjits out there who have hold of keyboards.
- Book-burning is a Bad Thing: Fred Clark
- New mosque opens peacefully in Philly suburb – next door to synagogue, near Baptist church – chicagotribune.com – This is the America I know and care for.
