- you don’t miss the water ’til the well runs dry – An infrastructure built decades ago (when we were willing to build such things), left largely unmaintained (because nobody wants to spend the money), and based on population levels far lower than what we currently have (because unrestricted development is a good/profitable thing), let alone what we’re likely to have (because all good Americans should have 3 kids, minimum).
