Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Bad move, A&E – "Cable stations like A&E, TLC, the History Channel, and the Discovery Channel were all set up with the noble goals of providing good educational/informative programming, and they've all sold out to provide little more than dreck ala Psychics with Serious Mental Illnesses Hunting Hitler's Ghost While Driving A Big Truck with Their Freakish Family. It's cheap, it's easy, the 'talent' they hire are all boring nobodies with only their disturbed personalities as a selling point — these are modern freak shows, plain and simple — and audiences eat them up."
- At a local Target store… [Respectful Insolence] – Remember how we used to laugh at all those Old West snake oil recipes? Here’s your basic info on Oscillococcinum: “The preparation is derived from duck liver and heart, diluted to 200C — a ratio of one part duck offal to 100^^400 parts water. This is such a high dilution that the final product likely contains not even one molecule of the original liver. Homeopaths claim that the molecules leave an ‘imprint’ in the dilution that causes a healing effect on the body, although available evidence does not support efficacy beyond placebo.” The future is laughing at us.
- A Visual Representation of Biblical Contradictions – Considering the Bible as inerrant and without contradictions requires a huge level of cognitive dissonance and rules lawyering. It’s ultimately a losing proposition, because it’s trying to define truth by fiat, rather than teach what the lessons are you are trying to impart. Arguing over infallibility is (or should be) the least important thing.

1. I haven’t watched anything on A&E since they canceled Nero Wolfe eight years ago.
2. I notice that the package lists symptoms but does not say that the product has any effect on them. No wonder it has no side effects; it would have to have an effect first.
3. Saving this one!
1. I’m pretty sure I’ve watched something on A&E since then, but can’t think of any. (Been watching the Nero Wolfe DVDs the past few weeks, in conjunction with NaNoWriMo.
Homeopaths never talk about all the sewage that is filtered out of water when it is recycled for those ‘down stream’…
HA!
