- Are Christians Really Oppressed? – The sense of “oppression” some Christians are squawking so loudly about is because they are slipping away from being the universal norm. It used to be “normal” that everyone was Christian (except for, y’know, that Jewish family on the other block), and that everyone celebrated Christmas, and that nobody would object to a Ten Commandments in the public square. It’s not that it used to be “fair” — it’s that “Christianity” used to be the social norm. As that changes, yes, Christians are facing a reduction in the assumption of universal privilege and being the universal religion. That’s not oppression; that’s learning to “work and play well with others.”

I don’t prefer one vs. the other, so that’s no great loss in either direction. I just hate to think there’s only one chain bricks-n-mortar book store in the country.

He’s done an enormous damage to our country, and I think he needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. And if that becomes a problem, we need to change the law.” That’s right — if you can’t find a law to prosecute someone … the law. I don’t care what you think about WikiLeaks, that’s gotta be just a smidge alarming.

- ThinkProgress » Obama Agrees To Extend All Bush Tax Cuts And Cut Estate Tax In Deal With Republicans – While the extension of unemployment benefits for another 13 months is critical, and some targeted incentive tax cuts may be helpful, both the estate tax deal and the temporary Bush tax cut deals are just hugely expensive bribes for the GOP. I think fighting for what’s right here would have been better, though it’s easy enough for me to say that when I’m not unemployed and losing my benefits.

- Narnia Fans are overly sensitive – See, if someone wanted to simply disagree, or even point out what Lewis wrote about the stories, that would be fine. Getting into a defensive hissy-snit is, at the very least, unbecoming.
- Semper Fidel-ish – I have no doubt that the vast majority of Marines will obey orders post-DADT, adjust to new conditions, and make their country proud. I have no doubt there will be a very few who leave, and I have no doubt that there are a few who will make trouble. But to decide on policy — and second-guess the spirit of the majority — based on that fraction that will cause trouble actually dishonors the Corps as a whole.
