Unblogged Bits (Sun. 12-Dec-10 1030)

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. Angry Birds, Flocking to Cellphones Everywhere – NYTimes.com – It’s an interesting combo of both interesting symbolism and a basic physics app, and it’s easily pausable (obsessive playing notwithstanding).
  2. Anatomy of a Theme Malware » Otto on WordPress – I hadn’t considered distributing malware packages through WordPress themes, but it makes sense. Another reason to only download themes from sources you trust, rather than freebie distributors, alas.
  3. Zits for 12/11/2010 – Yeah, beginning to start feeling paranoid this way …
  4. WikiLeaks – WikiLeaks is the messenger. And having demonstrated how easy it is to convey the message these days, it’s a sign that the djinn is not only out of the bottle, but others will be breaking free soon. Societies, including government and companies, will adjust — reducing and logging access to the “pain point” where it becomes counter-productive, possibly reducing what gets recorded so as to avoid embarrassment (or even, maybe, considering what might be recorded before acting). But, as noted, this was a routine confidential system accessed by many (millionn?) public employees. If information is the lifeblood of organizations, then it can’t be choked off too much. And, sometimes, there’s going to be bleeding.
  5. Leonids Above Torre de la Guaita – Pretty …
  6. Pornoscanners trivially defeated by pancake-shaped explosives – I feel safer!
