Unblogged Bits (Wed. 9-Feb-11 1030)

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. Pope’s organs are too holy to donate to mortals, says Church – Europe, World – The Independent – Um … seems kind of silly to me, particularly since bishops and cardinals can do so (and Benedict did when he was one).
  2. ‘I’m tired of the nuts’ – I’m hoping this is some sign of some minor sanity reentering Republican politics (or else of the increasing self-marginalization of same).
  3. ACORN Cleared of Voter Fraud Charges in Connecticut – Guilty even when proven innocent.
  4. What Makes Kids Fat? Here’s the Latest Answer – Still more grist in the mill. I don’t know what factors our own daughter has been subject to as predispositions, but exercising parental control over what she eats and when has been a big part of her staying skinny, I think. “Can I have something to eat?” is better when answered, “Sure, there’s some fruit in the bowl over there” or “Dinner is in half an hour, why don’t you wait” than “Yes, stop pestering me, go ahead and have some candy, then we’ll hit McDonald’s for supper.”
