Unblogged Bits (Tue. 15-Mar-11 2330)

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. Peru’s New Brand – Cool. My business trip to Chile has involved some discussions about associated business in Peru (sadly, no trip scheduled; fortunately, no trip scheduled), so it’s interesting to see this new identity.
  2. Follow-up: Starbucks Rolls Out New Identity – Kind of fun.
  3. The Queen Of Poe’s Law – My apologies, ma’am, for considering you a heartless and clueless Christian. Instead, I’ll consider you a heartless and clueless atheist troll, as damaging to your ostensible cause in your execrable judgment as your faux personal was to her own. But, either way, a dolt.
  4. Fun with a clueless Daylight Saving Time rant : Respectful Insolence – I think that DST is idiocy, too — but I don’t use it as a political hammer blame it on Palin or Reagan or Eisenhower or Hoover. Yeesh.
  5. Cuccinelli: God Made Me Attorney General To Save Constitution From Obama – I’m always bitterly amused by folks with such ego and hubris as to positively assert that they know for a fact they are on God’s side, rather than praying humbly that they might be such. Humility is, after all, one of the cardinal virtues.
  6. Republicans Double-Cross the Elderly – I guess the idea is that if they die quickly enough, it won’t affect the GOP at the ballot box …
  7. Wisconsin Republicans Won’t Count Democatic Committee Votes – Authority? We ain’t got no authority. We don’ need no stinkin’ authority …
  8. Japan Earthquke Shifted Balance Of The Planet: Japan Now Closer To U.S. – Jumpin’ Jehoshaphat. That’s amazing.
  9. Cantor To Japan: No Aid For You. – Compassionateless conservatives.
  10. Independents abandoning GOPers on economy – This is very early days viz 2012, but it indicates that the public is (not unexpectedly) turned off by the GOP agenda. That said, even if they only hold their own next year, the damage they are doing in the meantime is considerable.
  11. Feature: The most modern browser there is: Internet Explorer 9 reviewed – “I suspect that IE9 will also struggle to win over the geek demographic. It’s a very solid, effective browser, but the lack of “power” features (such as the richer tab handling, automatic session restoration, and extensive extension support) means that this community will likely be better-served by something like Firefox.” It sounds like MS is creating a solid back-end experience (which they did in IE8, too). But I think de-emphasis of the brower as the front-end environment in which that experience is managed is a mistake. Certainly my biggest gripes with IE8 are not with its rendering or stability, but with its usability.
  12. Next up for Congress: repeal the law of gravity | Bad Astronomy | Discover Magazine – It’s difficult to imagine politics trumping reality more blatantly.
  13. Jim DeMint’s Theory Of Relativity: ‘The Bigger Government Gets, The Smaller God Gets’ – Jim DeMint is a dolt. And, honestly, doesn’t have a lot of faith in God, if Big Government is a serious competition to Him.
  14. Amazon Kindle: Doyce Testerman shared from The Silmarillion – The more things change …
