It’s okay … it’s art

"Dawn," by William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1881)

In honor of the late Osama Bin Laden, the Taliban, and all those who this kind of thing would give fits.

  1. As I scrolled down the RSS feed email, I could tell from the veil, the hand that held it, and the head that it was Bouguereau. The San Diego Museum of Art (in the 60’s, that’s all it was called) in Balboa Park had at least one Bouguereau (Jeune Bergere (Young Shepherdess)), which my father always said was just like me in terms of disarray. Well, curly hair never quite looks precisely *neat*, and I did prefer bare feet, but those feet are certainly larger than mine. “La Branche de Laurier” could have been me as a teen–after braces, save that my nose was never that straight.

I do find myself wondering if the bin Laden widows are relieved, or worried about their future.
As I was looking through the Bouguereau site, I began to believe that he too had a few models he really liked to work with.

  2. I don’t recall Bouguereau’s particular entanglements with the other Pre-Raph ladies, but there was certainly a small stable of models/lovers/wives in certain areas of that circle.
