Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Trump actually could have been a contender – An interesting consideration, on the issues.
- The Effect of Solitary Confinement : Dispatches from the Culture Wars – Not that the gent in the story is an admirable or sympathetic figure on the basis of his crimes — but he remains a human being, and this is inhumane treatment.
- Newt is a problem of the GOP’s own making – “Surprise, surprise: he’s still the same old irresponsible Newt, willing to say pretty much anything as long as it’s phrased as strongly as possible. Even if he said the opposite, in just as dire terms, two weeks ago. Or yesterday. Only this time, since he’s in a GOP primary, he’s going to turn some of that fire on his own party. And, yeah, they don’t like it.”
- The ‘Gamble Report’ — A Defeat for Mikey Weinstein and His Forces of Satan? : Dispatches from the Culture Wars – A real shame, on several levels.
- Conn. Bill Would Require Taping of Interrogations : Dispatches from the Culture Wars – One would think the police would approve of this, as it would provide them with protection against accusations of coersion and other crimes. That they oppose it is, to my mind, suspicious on the face of it.
- Yale opens up image library, starts with 250,000 free images – Ooooh.
- A Starry Night of Iceland
- Canuck bloggers, you might become criminals shortly. « Lousy Canuck – While the First Amendment in the US would have some effect here, I’ve seen equally stupid similar legislation proposed in the US Congress before.
- Herald Sun Report Is So Bad I Got Out the Red Pen – That is very bad reporting (though not unusual for anything that has a technophobic aspect to it). Some of the grammar edits are unnecessary, given newspaper conventions, but the story itself is awful.
