I’ve finally wangled my way to having a business conference in my company meet here in Denver, rather than somewhere else. We’ll have one formal dinner together out, and I’m looking for suggestions of place to take the crew (7 of us) to dinner:
- In the downtown area — walking distance between Colfax and Wynkoop, Speer and Broadway. Folks are not going to have cars, and I’d as soon avoid the bus or light rail (16th Street Mall bus is okay).
- Something, preferably, that is Denver-specific or emblematic. I.e., there are plenty of great restaurants downtown that are parts of national chains, but I’d rather it be something unique to the city.
- No $70 entrees and $100 bottles of wine. But not Tokyo Joe’s, either.
I did a Surveymonkey survey of the participants as to preferences. Top choices were:
- Steak / Beef / Meat / Grill
- Brewpub (various foods + local microbrew)
- Seafood (non-seafood choices available)
These all tied (everyone could vote for however many choices they wanted, including “anything” or “don’t care”). There were no food allergies or aversions listed. I’d just as soon stay away from the hoity-toity molecular infusions, though — I want folks to walk away satisfied with both quality and quantity.
My only thought at the moment was the Wynkoop Brewing Co. — good variety of food, local (in-house!) microbrews, even pool tables, entrees in the $10-20 range. We could go pricier than that, if need be.
So, any other memorable or noteworthy suggestions? I’m wide-open here, and appreciate any input. Let me know in the next day or so if you can.
I’m a fan of McCormick’s on Wazee. Does that fir your parameters?

I’ve heard good things about them, and the food is of the right caliber — but they are also a nationwide chain (or a company that operates a variety of restaurants nationwide). I’ll keep them on the list, though.
Cheeky Monk, 534 e colfax – been to the one up here and it was good.
Marco’s Coal Fired Pizza, 2129 larimer st. – you’ve actually been there.
Cuba Cuba cafe & bar, 1173 Delaware St – heard good things about it.
Mercury Cafe, 2199 California St – not been there in a long time, but they were good.
Bayou Bob’s, 1635 Glenarm Place – good cajun food. Fridays is mudbug night.
Wazee Supper Club, 1600 15th Street – a fave pizza place.
Cool, thanks. I actually thought of Bayou Bob’s, but cajun didn’t rank as high as an option.
These places are maybe a scosh casual for what I’m thinking — but I’ll hold onto the list for the rump dinner with whoever isn’t flying out the last evening. Couple there I’ve wanted to try. 🙂
Okay, cool. Was working in the mid price range and close to the 16th street mall. There is always the Buckhorn as well.
Oh, and the Chop House.
Buckhorn would be tons of fun … but not really practical from my office without taxi or light rail. I’d prefer to hoof it.
I considered the ChopHouse. A serious possibility.
