Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- What Did the Bible Actually Say? – Trying to believe in a crystalline-perfect, unchanging, transparent, inerrant Bible requires more cognitive dishonesty than is good for one. It means either ignoring the inconsistencies and changes of the centuries, or developing convoluted rationales around them, and is an intellectually bankrupt approach that inevitably leads to still greater problems (and sins).
- Taibbi: SEC is covering up Wall Street crime: Matt Browner Hamlin
- “Dr.” Michele Bachmann Is Not A Doctor: Alan
- Making The Heartland A Bio-Oil Center Without Starving Ourselves In The Process – Of course, that doesn’t deal with the carbon impact of bio-oil, but it’s a start.
- Rick Perry Can’t Defend His Claim That Social Security Is Unconstitutional Because He’s ‘Got A Big Mouthful’ – Why should he explain? He gets maximum mileage by promising the elderly that Social Security will be there, and promising the Tea Party that Social Security is unconstitutional. Explanations would only ruin things.
- New Bionic Leg Thinks and Moves Like a Real Limb [Prosthetics] – Sweet!
- These Are the New Words In the Concise Oxford English Dictionary [Language] – I’d rather have a thousand words than that picture.
- Astrolite: The Liquid Land Mine [Monster Machines] – Interesting stuff — though because of its short life, only suitable for dynamic combat situations (where mines are rarely used); it’s not the sort of thing that would (or, obviously, has) obsolete conventional mines.
- Ad data shows Verizon customers shifting from Android to iPhone – I chalk this up to a referendum on Verizon vs AT&T more than on Android vs iPhone — and is the sort of leveling I'd expect once more options are available through different vendors.
- Wikipedia editors voting on “shutter” feature for violent and sexual images – It seems a decent compromise, minimally impacting access to expression while allowing folks to who choose so to avoid it.
- Sen. Coburn: ‘Good Thing I Can’t Pack A Gun On The Senate Floor’ – Stay classy, Tom! (Oh, and, by the way, Tom, language like that would get you fired from most jobs.)
