- Catholic officials in Ireland object to child abuse disclosure law – I understand, and respect, the value of the confessional. On the other hand, the Church in Ireland has demonstrated that it is less interested in civil law and protection of the innocent than in protecting its own (so to speak) ass. They’ve lost the benefit of the doubt, so far as this area is involved, and their hyperbolic rhetoric doesn’t improve their case.
