Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- The DOJ’s escalating criminalization of speech – Glenn Greenwald – Salon.com – My finding speech, and the political views behind it, despicable does not mean that I think it’s not (and shouldn’t be) protected by the First Amendment.
- Millions spent after 9/11, but are we really safer? – The Denver Post – I’m sure that stuff has been bought that might help in case of hypothetical terror attacks, and some of it stuff that might be helpful in other ways. But think of what else $354MM might have been spent on that might have demonstrably made us safer, or better.
- Panel(s) of the Week – 8/31/11 « – Secret Avengers #16 was was my comic of the week. Fun stuff from Warren Ellis with enjoyable (if sometimes a bit stiff) art from Jamie McKelvie.
- 1This one was submitted by the artist himself, Craig Spearing. – Nice Eowyn shot. This particular scene has been the subject of a lot of nice fantasy art.
- Why isn’t this an example of the falsification of the power of prayer? – Perhaps it’s a good, strong datum that, more specifically, politically sponsored (and politically motivated) prayer doesn’t work.
- Why keeping up with RSS is poisonous to productivity, sanity – This is really stupid. The issue is not with an RSS feed, but in subscribing to a lot of sites that regurgitate the same stories. It makes no different, in that sense, whether you are reading sites through RSS or by going to each site individually — except that the RSS feed makes it more convenient, and alerts you when a site that only posts once a day (or week, or month) comes up with something new.
- [Comic] FoxTrot forSunday, September 04, 2011 – This one’s for Katherine.
