Stop me if you've heard this electoral argument before

One consistent that has cropped up over every presidential election for the past decade or three has been the threat that The Next President Will Select Supreme Court Justices.

So, with the election just one year away, cue arguments that "we must elect X in order to protect/change the nature of the court."

Obama has selected two Justices — Sotomayor and and Kagan — but both replaced liberal-moderate Justices (Stevens and Souter — both appointed by Republicans). It was Dubya's appointments (Roberts and Alito) that truly changed the complexion of the Court to what it is today.

That Romney is glorifying those two — along with Thomas and Scalia — is to my mind sufficient to oppose his candidacy with vigor. Despite my dissatisfaction with Obama, we can't afford a single more like that quartet in SCOTUS.

Four of the current justices were born in the 1930s — Scalia, Kennedy, Ginsberg, Breyer. All things being equal, I don't want to see Romney getting anywhere near replacing any of any of them. #ddtb
