The eye-opener is who-all uses AWS/S3. That would be Yelp, Foursquare, Netflix, Newsweek, the New York Times, JPL, etc.
Amazon has done some amazing stuff in monetizing their cloud space — built to support their own efforts, but with excess / extendable capacity to sell processing and storage to others. Remarkable stuff — so long as it stays up.
