Criminitely. I thought I'd heard the most awful Darwinian ideas from the economic Right by now, but it continues to astound me. As in, makes me weep for our nation.
Yes, Newt. Of course we should get rid of all those awful unionized janitors (Damn them for seeking a working wage! Out, out I say!), and let all those high schoolers (or perhaps middle schoolers) whose families are struggling to get by go to work for some no-minimum-wage-need-apply pay to sweep the school corridors. That's just what we need to advance toward prosperity and justice and the American Way.
I would call you a dolt, but there's something so callously evil about every aspect of this that the word feels like weak tea. #ddtb

The Republicans aren't going to be happy until they've pulled us all the way back to the 19th century.
Newt's not the first Republican I've heard railing against child labor laws, but this suggestion is certainly one of the stupidest so far. #seb

“You say to somebody, you shouldn’t go to work before you’re what, 14, 16 years of age, fine. You’re totally poor. You’re in a school that is failing with a teacher that is failing. I’ve tried for years to have a very simple model,” he said. “Most of th…

Then there’s this winner from Michelle Bachmann:
“You’re looking at someone who lived at below poverty,” Bachmann said. “Have you ever lived at that, Abe? Have you? I have. I know what it’s like and I know what I had to do. I got a job. That’s what you need to do. You need to figure out how to get a job and make your way.”
That’s fine when jobs exist that are paying a living wage, as opposed to minimum and below.
Like I’ve always said, the GOP thinks that everything since 09/14/1901 has been a giant mistake and they want to roll the country back to the 1890-1900 era.
Marina, BD, you are both correct.
