  1. A Doomsday Machine makes an appearance in Star Trek Online. It was an entertaining story arc. Commodore Decker would be proud of us.

    1. @Avocet – I remember hearing about that. The episode does beg the issue of zorching similar berserkers with a 100MT explosion down the gullet. It’s interesting that the race(s) responsible for the berserker originally never figured out that relatively obvious tactic. Either that or the berserker’s self-defense systems degraded over time.

The CG effects for the Constellation were truly lovely (esp. in comparison to the model kit used for it in the original). I still have a sneaking love for the original DDM graphics, but there’s no question this version moved a lot more realistically, and the space battle bits were very nice.

One clip I’d never seen before (in syndication) raised the issue of possibly doing something with its control systems (perhaps with some zany Kirk-illogic a la NOMAD or Landru or Norman or all those other hapless computers Kirk runs into). Spock quickly notes that the systems are, duh, not accessible.
