A very interesting article, for a grammar geek like me. I tend to include hyphens (in the questionable areas) where leaving one out makes things look funny, esp. when it mashes together a vowel from each side (deemphasize, antiaircraft).
Along those lines of thinking, I read enough older stuff to remember when it was "co-operate" and then "coöperate" … #ddtb
