Net-net, this is a pretty good idea on Microsoft's part. It's worked pretty well for Firefox and Chrome users, so if MS does it right, it should help get a lot of older / unpatched IE installs at home updated.
For the office, alas, no such luck. In my company, at least, we have to move very slowly with browser upgrades to IE because of apps that rely upon older versions (either because of sluggish vendors, internal re-development headaches, or retaining paid-for older versions of the apps). #ddtb
