The War on Busts

No, not those busts, but a bust of Winston Churchill, and the petty kerfuffle over Obama returning said Bust to the Brits (who'd loaned it to Dubya) and how this shows he's somehow un-American, or un-British, or un-white or something.

As a side note, beyond the reasonable explanation for the return that the White House offered, I think it would be perfectly reasonable for Obama not to have sitting in the Oval Office a bust of a guy whose government tortured his grandfather. Really. #ddtb

Why Republicans Are So Concerned about a Bust of Winston Churchill

  1. So nothing to do with with Obama being a fuck wit then

“Daddy joined a violent revolt. Daddy got punished FIFTY FUCKING YEARS AGO, so instead of standing upto Right wingers, I’ll take it out on the UK Government of 2010.”

Why. Because policy and appointment shows that Obama is a fucking republican.

    1. First off, I don’t buy the GOP spin that this was some sort of anti-Churchill, slap-the-UK-in-the-face kid of thing.

Second, even if it were driven by some element of pique or personal history, I don’t think that’s necessarily a wrong thing, or that it was (as I’ve heard of it) handled poorly or in an insulting fashion. Even if his grandfather were guilty as sin of whatever it was he was accused of, his not wanting Churchill’s bust in a prominent place in his residence and place of business would be quite legitimate.

(That said, I agree that Obama resembles a Republican, albeit one of, say, twenty years ago. Which says a lot, sadly, about American political culture.)
