Dry acoustics are sounds (or rooms) with little or no reflection/reverberation. Recording studios always have dry acoustics. Theaters and concert halls are sometimes designed that way, vs churches (or singing in the bathroom) which are a wet or active acoustic (adding all sorts of reverb and echo).
My mom (Gloria) opined in email (after having problems posting a comment) that, having actually playing on both some Strads and some new, modern instruments, she questions the results suggested above.
