I don't know about other places…but in PA we had to have either our voter registration card OR an ID. Your name is on a list for that district and they check you off. So, this begs the question, are these people faking IDs or cards to get in? Or are other states not as strict as PA?
It varies from state to state. I've done elections where I've just walked up and said who I am and my address, and signed on the dotted line. Other states require a government-issued photo ID whether you're registered or not.

Why would some idiot try to fake voter fraud on a large scale, when a conviction for same removes his own right to vote for the forseeable future, if not until death? Oh, right. Idiot!
Ok. That makes sense how it can be abused then. Like I said in PA you can have an ID or your registration card. I also think you can take in 2 or 3 pieces of mail like an electric bill with your name on it (same as a lot of other things you might need ID for but not have a photo ID). While you do have to prove yourself here, they make it really easy.
