It’s illegal (in California, at least) for a police officer to cover their badge or otherwise hide their identity, for obvious reasons. And, in this case from the Oakland Occupy protests, that appropriately got a cop, and his lieutenant, into hot water.
We give these people guns, and permission to use force against citizens. There are good reasons for that, and it’s a dangerous (and essential, and, yes, often thankless) job. but it’s also a job that requires complete accountability. Here’s hoping this particular case teaches that lesson to other cops who might try to shirk that accountability. #ddtb
