White House wants devastating cuts to NASA's Mars budget
The Presidential NASA budget request was just made public, and while much of NASA funding remains stable overall, the White House wants to cut Mars exploration by a crippling $226 million, a slashing of more than 38%. This means canceling two missions outright (one with European partners) and putting at risk long-term exploration as well.
I'm pretty angry – and very disappointed in President Obama – and lay it all out in the post linked below. This is complicated – politics plays a role, as do cost overruns for other missions – but in the end, it's all because as a nation we do not put enough emphasis on science and exploration.
