I wonder if that sodium was refined for a breeder reactor at Hanford. And if so why they didn't just store it there. Plenty of room for a remote, dry warehouse.
I'd had the same thought re a breeder reactor. The first breeder in the US went online in 1951, though, so it may well have been for some other use.
A lot of stuff got just thrown away after the war.
It is fixed now.
