Happy to be in Colorado (no, really!)

I'm not thrilled about the word "well-being" losing its hyphen in most of this article, but aside from that it's kinda cool that Colorado is tied for 6th in top "wellbeing" states. #ddtb

Hawaii Still No. 1 in Wellbeing, West Virginia Stuck in Last
Hawaiians had the highest wellbeing in the U.S. in 2011, maintaining their No. 1 status for a third consecutive year. West Virginians again had the lowest wellbeing.

  1. I cannot understand how ND or MN ended up above CO in that list. I can understand why HI is #1, though I think I prefer not to live on an island. The others are a wash. I understand why UT and AK are high on the list, though I think CO is superior. But the high ranking of ND and MN leave me puzzled.

  2. North Dakota workers reported the best work environments in the country.” That includes:
    Job satisfaction
Ability to use one’s strengths at work
Supervisor’s treatment (more like a boss or a partner)
Supervisor creates an open and trusting work environment

NoDak also got very high scores in Life Evaluation, Emotional Health, Physical Health and Basic Access. It got poor scores in Healthy Behavior.

Minnesota had the highest Physical Health subfactor. The Physical Health Index includes nine items:
Sick days in the past month
    Disease burden
Health problems that get in the way of normal activities
    Obesity
    Feeling well-rested
    Energy
    Colds
    Flu
    Headaches

Minnesota got very high rankings in everything but Healthy Behavior.

There are also ratings by city and congressional district In Minnesota’s case, Minneapolis/St Paul (and the whole south and west of the state) got high ratings overall; Duluth got mediocre-poor, though that NE corner of the state got overall middle ratings. (NoDak doesn’t have competing cities or congressional districts.)

Colorado’s report is here: http://www.well-beingindex.com/files/2012WBIrankings/CO_2011StateReport.pdf … we got all high or very high rankings. There was an improvement in 2011 vs 2010.

By city area, Ft Collins had a top ranking overall; Greeley, Denver/Aurora, Boulder/Longmont, and Colorado Springs had high ratings. Greeley’s rating’s in 2010 were significantly worse, though.

From a Congressional District standpoint, CO-6 (Boulder and inland) is very high, CO-1 (Denver), 4 (Plains, incl Ft Collins/Greeley), 5 (Springs and inland) are high, 3 (western) is in the middle, and 6 (Arapahoe, DougCo, Ebert) and 7 (Longmont wrapping around up into Adams Co.) are fair/poor.
