Apparently feeding the poor and sheltering the homeless aren't enough any more
Why else would the Catholic Diocese of Sacramento defund a homeless shelter over the beliefs of its director, who has spoken out in favor of marriage equality and abortion? Because neither of those matters are any part of the services Francis House provides.
'In its letter to Whitmore, the Sacramento diocese said it respects the work Francis House does and cannot expect every organization it supports financially to "actively promote Catholic teaching. We can expect, however, that they or their leaders not publicly oppose Catholic teaching and that, unfortunately, is the situation in which we find ourselves," the letter reads.'
So it does work that the Church has supported, and still respects, but because its new director has, outside the bounds of the actual institution's activities, been cheeky enough to espouse positions in public that the Church dislikes, the folks they provide services for will just have to suffer for it.
Just what Jesus would do, I'm sure. #ddtb

I could almost understand if the director were RC, but she’s not. However, I understand that “conservative Christians” of any stripe are no longer interested in following the teachings of Jesus. They’re more in tune with The Sermon On The Mall than The Sermon On The Mount.
My wife got quite a chuckle out of “The Sermon on the Mall.” Thanks.
