Floutist, er, Flautist

Kay at her 6th Grade concert this evening. They've made remarkable progress over the course of the year so far. #ddtb

  1. Just went to my son’s 8th grade concert last night, he plays viola. Bitter sweet, second to last concert of the year and the high school schedule is hectic enough that he had to drop orchestra in order to keep up with his vocal interests. Of course, he actually PRACTICES singing, not so much the viola.

They are a lot better now that in 6th grade, but the better they get the more grating I find the off notes. #firstworldproblem

    1. @Arty – I played viola up through 8th grade. The high school I went to didn’t have a music program, so I never went back to it (with some mild regret now), though I did get heavily into choir when the opportunity allowed.

My parents still play chamber music (my mom on the violin, my dad on the cello), so I know how demanding, and rewarding, a hobby it can be.
