I remember the day that the Santa Cruz City Councilmembers handed out medical marijuana on the steps of City Hall. I was driving Arthur to an appointment, and trying to give him more info about why they were doing that, and that the Fed. laws ruled this illegal. I also mentioned assisted suicide (Oregon) and the federal opposition to it.
His comment–at 7 or 8? I guess the government wants sick people to suffer.
I don’t think it’s that explicit. I think that’s just the unavoidable end-result of a variety of law promulgated for profit, ideological comfort, and feeling safe at night. The human toll that results is dealt with by cognitively sticking metaphorical fingers in the ears and singing lalalala loudly.
