Understanding the mid-credits ending scene in "The Avengers"

SPOILERS. I mean, really, folks.

This one is for the dozen people who have (a) seen the movie, (b) and had no idea what was going on in that scene, (c) are still geeky enough to be interested in understanding it.

If (a) is not true, then don't read this. Really, it won't add anything, and will possibly take away. If (b) is not true, then you were probably chortling madly along with me. If (c) is not true, then you are dead to me (just kidding).

  1. Went and saw it again today, and knowing that Thanos is the one behind Loki’s plot makes the movie even more fun. Also, this time I got the awesome pun at the end where the “Other” tells Thanos “to challenge them is to court death…”

  2. I had forgotten that the Infinity Gauntlet was in Odin’s vault in Thor.

They would be hard-pressed to come up with a scenario that would be scarier than this one. The potential here is enormous.

    1. Yup. Just one of those subtle Easter Eggs.

The problem with really doing up the Infinity Gauntlet is that, once you get past the “I can do anything” FX-extravaganza, how do you deal with the actual psychodrama around it?
