Silly Nanny-statism

Really, Mayor Boomberg? Banning sugared sodas of more than 16 oz., but not juices, milk shakes, or beers? And just in restaurants, not in stores?

I mean, I'm all in favor of finding ways to fight obesity, and I don't drink sugared sodas, but this is a remarkable mixture of government intrusion and utter ineffectiveness. Silly.

A proposal that would take effect as soon as next March is the most ambitious effort yet by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg’s administration to combat rising obesity.

    1. It also leads me to wonder — will they be outlawing “refillable” drinks, for fear that someone might refill their 16-oz cup and drink (gasp) 32 ounces of soda?

  1. If this passes, waiters won't be able to bring a pitcher of soda for a group full of people who wan to do their own refills, stupid kind of problems like that.

This will not fix anything at all and just complicates the laws. How do you enforce this? Walk around through bars and measure the volumes of their glasses?

  2. In my opinion the government should have zero say on obesity. If I want to stuff my face until I'm 500lbs, that should be my right.

Now, along with that right comes the responsibility that I'm on my own healthcare wise.

To me it falls under "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness".
