Why does Scotch smell like Band-Aids?

I've not noticed it, but I don't (as has been noted) drink much Scotch.

(And, yes, +Margie Kleerup, I looked it up, and the same can occur with certain toasted wine barrels used for some chardonnays.)

Also disinfectant, crude oil, Sharpies, synthetic insulin…

  1. Actually, the peatiest is another Islay mal, Bruichladdich’s (80.5 PPM) malt with the name ‘Octomore’. I can’t recall if I have bought any of this!

Sharpies, ick! Don’t smell a bit like my Islays, for which I’m grateful. If you should hear of anthing that reminds the taster of tea-tree oil or any other melaleuca, let me know so that I can avoid it for the sake of my health.
