It kind of does look like a hairy monkey in an ill-fitting tunic. No laughing matter though.
OK, accurate photos have been taken. Bring in a an art forger, put it back like it was, and mount an illustrated plaque telling the story. Next step: more tourist dollars!

Actually, the last plan I read (can't recall if it was in this article) was to take a large-sized photo of the original and display it in front.
