I'm sure that if we were talking about a "Gay Marriage Convention" or a "Atheists United Convention," the Religious Right would be chortling aloud about how God is punishing them and their host cities by throwing hurricanes in their direction, and can't they see this nature-driven message from the Lord Almighty and turn from their evil ways?
But since we're talking about Republican conventions, they'll stay silent … except for maybe some fringers who blame it on the party nominating a Mormon.

Hurricane Isaac delays GOP convention until Tue. Theyre not having much luck. 2008 was delayed with Hurricane Gustav

From a religious viewpoint, I think a lot of natural phenomena are simply part of the fall, and not God's "judgement" in that sense. It's just the world we live in.
Of course, for the non-religious, this is all nonsense.
This could make them feel even more like martyrs.
I consider myself religious, +Chris Ruhs, but I don't go looking for Divine Motivation in natural phenomena as a regular thing, simply because without a divine signature in the sky in fiery letters it's a mook's game to figure out which natural phenomena are the natural course of things and which are not. Unless everything has divine meaning, in which case it's still not clear.
