Or that's at least what Phyllis Schlafly seems to be arguing; because we didn't have American men winning bazillions of gold medals in every event, it's because those poor, mistreated, masculine, true athletes were somehow cash-starved by all those wasteful, useless, worthless female athletic programs.
Right, Phyllis. When you start showing me that US women athletes — who won more golds than US men — are being funded with more money than their male counterparts, then we can talk. Besides, as NBC clearly told us, medals are medals, and all that counts in the Olympics is the final medal count and how many "Star-Spangled Banner" renditions we got to hear.

Somehow I just can't really believe she's a woman. And I also can't believe anyone thinks she has any authority.
She has authority to the extent that people seem willing to listen to her, invite her to their conferences and radio programs and planning sessions, and quote her as someone worth listening to. Which is a sadly long list.
Schlafly gets a lot of press and speaking engagements because it's not easy to find a woman willing to espouse such vehemently anti-women views. Having found one, they have to use her, like, all the time.
